TRYOUT INFORMATION:

2006-2007 TRYOUT/REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Are you interested in becoming a member of Cape Breton's FIRST and LONGEST RUNNING Elite All-Star Program for athletes 18 and up?

CAPE BRETON CHEER ALL-STARS OPEN TEAM IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE WE WILL BE THE FIRST CHEERLEADING ORGANIZATION IN ALL OF CAPE BRETON TO ELIMINATE THE TRYOUT PROCEDURE!

We feel that EVERYONE should be able to experience cheerleading with CBCA Open, so ALL members who attend tryout/registration will be registered for the 2006-2007 season. We will have one Open Team for our more advanced athletes and if there is sufficient interest we will have a SECOND team for our athletes newer to the sport. If we only have enough interest to warrant one team, ALL atheletes will be put together and will be worked with equally and given fair opportunity to compete with Advanced. This way ALL athletes will be placed on a team, REGARDLESS of their cheerleading experience.

2006-2007 TRYOUT/REGISTRATION DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED!

Please call 902-544-0516 IF YOU CANNOT MAKE IT TO ONE OF OUR TRYOUT/REGISTRATION DATES. We would be happy to register you over the phone!

If you would like information about upcoming tryouts...please email Janine at janinemuise@hotmail.com

Q: WHAT ARE THE COACHES LOOKING FOR?

A: We are looking for well rounded DEDICATED athletes, both female and male. People who can jump, stunt, and dance well will have have an upper hand, although cheerleading experience is not necessary, just the ability to be willing to learn :) Tumbling would be an asset, but if you can't tumble, don't worry you can still make the team.

Q: WHAT KINDS OF STUNTS WILL I BE REQUIRED TO DO OR LEARN TO DO?

A: In the NSCCA at the 18+ level, you are considered to be an "ELITE" group of athletes. We are allowed 2 1/2 high pyramids, back tuck baskets, twisting layouts, flyovers, double twisting for extended stunts, etc. Single Stunts such as extended heel streches, libs, scorpions and bow and arrows are considered to be elite stunts. These are some of the most difficult things to be expected of you. And definately not at the first practice :) It all comes with practice.

Q: WHAT WILL I BE REQUIRED TO DO AT THE TRYOUT:

A: At the tryout you will be put into stunt groups to show us what you've got. There will also be time set aside for Jumps, Tumbling and Dance. We are aware that you will be stunting with new people so don't be nervous, we understand :)

Q: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO TRYOUTS:

A: Atheltic attire should be worn (tees, tanks, pants, shorts, SNEAKERS) It is asked that you do not wear Lycra or Spandex of any kind, it is too difficult to stunt in and is dangerous for tops. And you hair must be pulled back off of your face at all times.

Q: HOW MANY SPOTS ARE OPEN:

A: There are 35 regular positions and 5 alternate postions avaliable. There are no "WALK-ONS" all members from last year's team, must put forth the same effort at this year's tryouts.

Q: WHAT IS REQUIRED OF ME IF I MAKE THE TEAM:

A: You must attend EVERY practice. Normally this is Sunday nights from 8:30pm-11:30pm and Thursday nights from 8:30pm-11:30pm, but may also include extra time throughout the summer months. If you cannot make a practice a VALID excuse must be given in 24-48 hours notice to the Head Coach ONLY! All other team requirements can be found in the ABOUT THE TEAM - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES section
